Hi-pot tester

A hipot tester (also called a hi pot, dielectric withstand or electric strength tester) applies a voltage well above a product's working voltage between its live parts and its accessible conductive parts. It shows whether the insulation can withstand that stress without breaking down. A hipot test is required by most product safety standards, both as a type test on samples and as a routine test on every unit leaving a production line. Our range covers AC and DC hipot testers from Associated Research, GW Instek and SCI. Most mains-powered products are tested within 5 kV AC or 6 kV DC, the range of the Associated Research Hypot and HypotULTRA Series, the GW Instek GPT-9800, GPT-12000 and GPT-15000 and the SCI 290 and 440 Series. For cables, motors, components and other high-voltage work, the GW Instek GPT-15012 goes to 12 kV DC and the Associated Research HypotMAX to 20 kV. Production models offer programmable ramp and dwell times, arc detection, barcode input and stored results. Multi-function models add insulation resistance and ground bond.
